Writing Product Listings That Get You WhatsApp Messages
A great photo gets attention, but your words close the sale. Learn how to write FindAm listings that answer buyers' questions and get them to message you on WhatsApp.
On FindAm, the goal of every listing is simple: get the buyer to tap that WhatsApp button and start a conversation. A beautiful photo pulls them in, but it's your words that turn interest into a message. Most vendors write listings in ten seconds and wonder why nobody contacts them. A few minutes of thought makes all the difference.
This guide shows you how to write a listing that answers questions before they're asked, builds trust, and makes messaging you the obvious next step.
Write a title that's clear, not clever
Your title is the first thing buyers read in search results. It should say exactly what the item is — plainly. This isn't the place to be creative or vague.
A weak title: "Nice shoes for sale"
A strong title: "Men's Nike Air Force 1 — White, Size 42, New"
The strong title tells the buyer the brand, model, colour, size, and condition at a glance. It also matches the words people actually type into search, so your listing shows up when they look. Include the details that matter for your product: brand, model, size, colour, condition, and any key feature.
Describe it the way you'd explain it to a friend
Imagine a customer standing in front of you asking, "Tell me about this." That's the tone of a good description — friendly, honest, and complete. Cover the things a buyer needs to know:
- What it is and what it's for.
- Condition — new, like new, or used. If used, be honest about wear.
- Key features — size, colour, material, capacity, what's included.
- Why it's worth it — a genuine reason, not empty hype.
You don't need fancy language. Clear, simple sentences win. Write the way you speak.
Answer questions before they're asked
Every question a buyer has to ask is a moment they might give up instead. The best listings remove that friction by answering common questions upfront:
- Is the price negotiable?
- Is delivery available, and to which areas?
- Can they pick it up? From where?
- Is it still available?
- Does it come with a warranty or guarantee?
- For phones and electronics: is it original? Does everything work?
When buyers see their questions already answered, two things happen: they trust you more, and the only message left to send is "I'll take it." That's exactly what you want.
Be honest about condition — always
Honesty is not just the right thing to do; it's good business. If you sell a "perfect" item that arrives with a scratch you didn't mention, you get a frustrated buyer, possibly a refund demand, and a bad review that scares off future customers.
Instead, state the condition plainly: "Used, good condition. Small scratch on the back, shown in photo 3. Screen and battery perfect." A buyer who knows what they're getting is a happy buyer. Honest listings build the kind of reputation that brings repeat customers and referrals.
Price with intention
Buyers compare. If your price is wildly higher than similar listings, they scroll past without asking. If it's suspiciously low, they assume something's wrong or that it's a scam. Research what similar items sell for on FindAm and price within a sensible range.
If you're open to negotiation, say so — "Price slightly negotiable for serious buyers." If your price is firm, that's fine too — just be clear, so you don't waste time on back-and-forth.
Make the WhatsApp step effortless
The whole listing builds toward one action: the buyer messaging you. Make that step feel natural and low-pressure. A simple closing line works well:
"Message me on WhatsApp to confirm availability or arrange delivery. Quick to respond!"
And then — actually respond quickly. A buyer who messages and waits hours often buys from someone else in the meantime. Fast, polite replies are one of the biggest advantages a small vendor has over a big, slow business. Use it.
Include your location
Cameroonian buyers care about where you are. Someone in Douala wants to know if you can deliver to Bonabéri; someone in Yaoundé wants to know if pickup in Bastos is possible. Always include your city and quarter, and state your delivery areas. A listing without location detail makes buyers hesitate.
A quick before-and-after
Before: "Phone for sale. Good price. Contact me."
After: "iPhone 12, 128GB, Black — Used, Excellent Condition. Battery health 89%. No scratches on screen, tiny mark on back corner (see photo 4). Comes with charger and original box. Located in Akwa, Douala. Delivery available within Douala. Price: 220,000 FCFA, slightly negotiable for serious buyers. Message me on WhatsApp — I reply fast!"
The second listing answers nearly every question a buyer could have. The only thing left to do is message you.
The bottom line
A listing that sells does three jobs: it tells the buyer exactly what the item is, it answers their questions before they ask, and it makes messaging you the easy, obvious next step. Spend three extra minutes on each listing and you'll turn far more views into real conversations — and conversations are where sales happen.
Clear title. Honest description. Questions answered. Fast replies. That's the whole formula.
